The Story
Created by Finnish designer Oiva Toikka, whose imaginative approach transformed glass into a world of colour, movement and storytelling, Prosaisti was produced at Nuutajärvi in 2013 as a special commission for Suuri Suomalainen Kirjakerho (SSKK). Its richly textured brown and caramel-toned body is paired with a clear grey head and lustrous beak, creating a quietly expressive character. Prosaisti reflects Toikka's fascination with birds as both natural subjects and sculptural forms. Free-blown and shaped by hand, the bird combines a tactile surface with subtle variations in the glass, giving the body a layered and organic appearance. Produced as a limited edition of 400 numbered pieces, Prosaisti belongs to the distinctive group of birds created for SSKK. Its name, meaning Prosaist, gives the bird a particularly fitting connection to the world of literature and the Finnish book club.
