The Story
Created by Oiva Toikka for Nuutajärvi, Juhlakukko (Celebration Rooster) was introduced in 1997 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Birds by Toikka collection. The model remained in production until 2008 and became one of the distinctive anniversary birds of the series. The bird is characterised by its deep royal-blue body, red crest and wattle, and richly patterned multicoloured tail. It is made from cased glass with additional coloured glass elements and powder inclusions, creating variation in colour and surface appearance. The form is free-blown and shaped by hand, reflecting the craftsmanship that defined Toikka's bird production at Nuutajärvi. The Juhlakukko is particularly notable as a commemorative piece within the history of Birds by Toikka. Its 25th-anniversary marking, together with Toikka's signature, identifies it as a special edition created to celebrate a significant milestone in the development of one of Finland's best-known glass bird collections.
