Annikki Hovisaari

Annikki Hovisaari (1918–2004). A cornerstone of the legendary Arabia Art Department, Annikki Hovisaari was a master of texture and glaze. Joining Arabia in 1949, she became famous for her unique "chamotte" technique—mixing fired clay grog into raw clay to create a rugged, stone-like surface. Her work often features deep, crystalline glazes in mystical blues and earthy bronzes, reflecting the quiet strength of the Finnish wilderness. Her miniature vases and organic bowls are highly prized by collectors for their tactile, hand-sculpted soul.
