Saara Hopea
Saara Elisabet Hopea-Untracht (1925 - 1984). A perfectionist of the minimalist ideal, Saara Hopea-Untracht was a central figure in the golden age of Finnish glass. With a background in interior and furniture design, she brought a rigorous sense of proportion to the Nuutajärvi glassworks. Her work, heavily influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy, stripped away all ornament to let the purity of the form and color speak. Her stackable Harlekiini (Harlequin) glassware remains a quintessential example of 1950s Nordic modernism—elegant, functional, and timelessly sophisticated.
