Tove Slotte-Elevant
Tove Catarina Slotte-Elevant (b. 1957). One of Finland's most recognised illustrators and ceramic designers, Tove Slotte-Elevant is the creative force behind Arabia's world-famous Moomin tableware. Trained as a ceramic artist at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, she joined Arabia in 1985, where she helped develop the Moomin collection that debuted in the early 1990s. Working in close cooperation with Tove Jansson and later drawing on both Tove and Lars Jansson's original illustrations, Slotte carefully adapted and re-composed the artwork to suit the curved surfaces of mugs, bowls and tableware while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original stories. After leaving Arabia in 1993, she continued as a freelance designer for the Moomin collection for nearly three decades. Her thoughtful interpretations have transformed the Moomin tableware into one of Finland's most successful design exports, beloved by collectors around the world for combining timeless storytelling with everyday functionality.
