The Story
Gunnel Nyman’s "GN 27," designed in 1947, is one of the rarest and most sculptural masterpieces of modern Finnish art glass. Unlike the symmetrical GN 26, the GN 27 features a slanted cut base and an asymmetrical form, reminiscent of a melting ice block or a water drop. The vase is characterized by Nyman’s signature "spike mould" technique, where thousands of micro-bubbles create a luminous, textile-like effect within the glass. As the "GN 27" was produced in significantly smaller quantities than other models in the series, it is considered a true rarity among collectors. A pristine, original "G. Nyman" signed piece offers collectors long-term investment value and historical uniqueness. It is a museum-quality design classic that unites technical virtuosity with minimalist elegance, making it a worthy addition to any discerning art collection.

Gunnel Nyman

Gunnel Nyman (1909 – 1948). A true pioneer of modern Finnish glass, Gunnel Nyman’s career was tragically short but immensely influential. Originally trained as a furniture designer, she brought a new, lyrical soul to glass art, moving away from heavy engravings toward organic, liquid forms. She was a master of capturing "frozen movement," often using delicate air bubbles and veils of smoke trapped within the glass. Her work is a testament to the ethereal beauty of the material itself, and her sophisticated aesthetic laid the groundwork for the golden age of Scandinavian design.
