The Story
Designed by Oiva Toikka for Nuutajärvi, Hakki was introduced in 1996 as the first bird in the Birds by Toikka Annual Bird series. Named after the Finnish word for nutcracker, the bird combines a warm amber-toned glass body with delicate white filigree that creates a distinctive feather-like surface. Free-blown and individually shaped by hand, Hakki reflects the close collaboration between Toikka's organic forms and the technical skill of Nuutajärvi's glassmakers. The white pattern gives the otherwise warm-toned body a rhythmic texture, while the darker head and black beak provide a strong visual contrast. As the first Annual Bird, Hakki holds a special place in the history of the series.
