Tamara Aladin

Tamara Aladin (1932–2019) was one of the most influential designers in the history of Riihimäki Glass, creating many of the bold, sculptural forms that came to define Finnish glass during the 1960s and 1970s. After graduating from the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, she joined Riihimäen Lasi in 1959, where she designed both functional tableware and striking decorative glass, much of it intended for international export. During the 1960s, more than half of the factory's vase production was based on her designs, making her one of its most prolific creators. Over the course of her career she designed more than 150 documented models, while many additional pieces were produced anonymously. Her best-known collections, including Kehrä, Koralli and Carafe, are celebrated for their clean geometric silhouettes, vivid colours and strong sculptural presence. Combining Scandinavian simplicity with a confident sense of form and colour, Aladin created designs that remain among the most recognisable and collectible examples of Finnish mid-century glass.
