The Story
Erkkitapio Siiroinen’s 1970 "Veturipullo" (locomotive bottle) is a unique piece of Finnish design, created to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Riihimäki–St. Petersburg railway. This iconic bottle is one of the few design objects directly inspired by a historical event, with its relief design depicting a stylized steam locomotive featuring the "Riihimäki" inscription. While produced in a limited edition in 1970, the first 1,000 hand-blown pieces are particularly prized for their craftsmanship and authenticity. Due to its historical symbolism and deep connection to Finland's railway heritage, this bottle is a highly valued collector's item that offers long-term investment value. It is a museum-quality design classic that unites technical ingenuity with historical narrative, making it a worthy addition to any discerning design collection.

Erkkitapio Siiroinen
Erkkitapio Siiroinen (1944–1996). A bold representative of the "pop" generation in Finnish glass design, Erkkitapio Siiroinen brought a sense of playful geometry and vibrant energy to the Riihimäki Glassworks. Working at the peak of the factory's creative era in the 1960s and 70s, he became famous for his thick-walled, sculptural objects that captured the modern, upbeat spirit of the time. Siiroinen is best known for iconic designs like the Noppapullo (Dice Bottle) and the Veturipullo (Locomotive Bottle), which remain highly sought-after treasures for collectors. His work is a celebration of jewel-toned colors and futuristic shapes, defining a unique and colorful chapter in Scandinavian design history.
