Inspired by pastoral poetry, Tomula filled the surface with graceful flowers, birds and romantic imagery, all rendered in her distinctive fine black linework and rich cobalt blue. The vase combines Tomula's expressive decoration with the timeless cylindrical form designed by Kaj Franck. His restrained shape allows the illustration to flow uninterrupted around the vase, creating a perfect harmony between form and decoration. Produced for only a few years, from 1965 to 1969, the 398-3 vase is considerably rarer than the Pastoraali tableware.
