Sarpaneva transformed these geological formations into a group of sculptural glass objects in which irregular forms, substantial volumes and matt surfaces evoke the appearance and character of weathered rock. The series was produced at Iittala from 1952 to 1960 and represents an important early stage in Sarpaneva's development as a glass artist. \u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eHiidenkehto, model 3157, is one of the more horizontal forms within the series. Its low, rounded profile gives the object a distinctly organic character, while the matt, translucent surface enhances its resemblance to a naturally worn stone formation. The model was produced in two sizes, with the characteristic surface achieved through sandblasting and acid treatment. Hiidenkehto is a distinctive example of Sarpaneva's early sculptural glass and an important part of the Hiidenkirnu series.
